Down the Gold Road into Paraty

Six races between the sea and the Serra do Mar, almost all starting and finishing in the historic centre of Paraty, through the Atlantic Forest.

Paraty Brazil by UTMB ran from 17 to 20 September 2026, and the organiser now lists the next edition for 23 to 26 September 2027 with the same programme. The courses leave the historic centre of Paraty, climb into the Atlantic Forest of the Serra do Mar and the Serra da Bocaina, and come back down to the town. The two longest end on the historic Caminho do Ouro, a stone-paved trail the Portuguese used to carry gold, with paving the organiser dates to more than 200 years ago.

The PTR 108 (101 km, 4,850 m of climbing, 30 hours) starts on Friday at 19:00 and climbs over a series of hills to Pedra da Macela before the descent past the Janela do Mar. Saturday brings the PTR 58 (published at 53 km, 3,200 m) at 05:00, the PTR 34 (1,100 m) at 06:00 and the PTR 25 (750 m) at 08:00, all from the historic centre, and the PTR 17 (550 m) from Fazenda Bananal at 14:00. The RUN 7 goes through the old town on Sunday at 07:00.

A night in the Atlantic Forest is hard on a phone: dense canopy, steep valleys and long stretches without coverage. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast, and whoever they send it to opens it in a browser with no account or app: position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate for Paraty that updates as the race goes. When the signal drops, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never shown as measured.
