Snowbasin by UTMB, live.

Above Ogden, looking out to the Great Salt Lake

Snowbasin by UTMB is two trail races from one Utah ski resort: a 28K on Friday and a 58K on Saturday, in the third week of September.

The 2027 edition runs from Snowbasin Resort in the Wasatch Mountains above Ogden. The 28K starts at 08:30 on Friday, September 17. The organiser lists it at 29 km and 800 m of climbing, with a 7-hour limit. The 58K starts at 07:00 on Saturday, September 18 and is listed at 59 km and 1,800 m of climbing (5,800 ft), with a 12-hour limit. Both start and finish at the resort. Snowbasin is also named as a venue for the 2034 Olympic Games.

The organiser describes the 58K as tough but runnable, through sagebrush and stands of aspen and fir, with views over Ogden and out to the Great Salt Lake. The 28K stays closer to home and circles the resort on singletrack through forest and mountain meadow. The race is part of the UTMB World Series, and anyone who finishes both Snowbasin and the Speedgoat Mountain Races in July in the same year earns Wasatch Challenge status and a medal.

A runner on the 58K can be out on the mountain for most of the day, and the people at the finish see nothing of it until the runner comes home. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast. Family open it in a browser, with no app or account, and see position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Where the phone loses signal in the trees, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing.
