America's Friendliest Marathon, with a downhill finish

The Allianz Richmond Marathon, the CarMax Half Marathon and the Capital One 8k run through Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday 14 November 2026.

Sports Backers organises the Richmond Marathon, which calls itself America's Friendliest Marathon. The 2026 races are on Saturday 14 November, all three are sold out with a waitlist, and the expo runs on Thursday 12 November from 3 to 7 pm and Friday 13 November from 11 am to 8 pm.

The marathon starts at 7:00 sharp at 4th and Broad Street, and the course closes at 2 pm. The CarMax Half Marathon starts at 7:15 at 8th and Broad and closes at 11:30, and the Capital One 8k starts at 7:30 between 6th and 7th on Broad Street. The routes take in street art, river views, historic architecture and parks.

Live bands, DJs, spirit groups and the 12 On Your Side Party Zones line the course, along with junk food stops, wet wash cloths and pickle juice. Every race ends with the renowned downhill finish, followed by the post race party on Brown's Island by the riverfront.

The organiser calls the marathon course great for first timers, with some rolling hills, and it is a USATF certified top Boston Qualifier. Spectators are pointed to the party zones at miles 7, 13 and 19 of the marathon and mile 7 of the half, each with music, noisemakers and signs.
