Viana Granfondo, live.

Between the sea and the mountains of Alto Minho

The Viana Granfondo is an amateur road event in Viana do Castelo, riding between the sea and the mountains of the Alto Minho region.

The 5th edition is on Sunday 14 March 2027. All three distances start together at 9:00 from Avenida de Figueiredo at Praia Norte in Viana do Castelo and finish in the same place. The start boxes open at 8:00, the first 2 km or so are ridden behind a controlled start, and the finish line closes at 16:00.

The Granfondo covers 130 km, the Mediofondo 80 km and the Minifondo 60 km. It is an open event of an amateur competitive nature, organised by Bikeservice under the rules of the Portuguese Cycling Federation, and it is ridden on open roads, so the Highway Code applies. Road bikes, mountain bikes and tandems are allowed, but e-bikes and motorised vehicles are not.

Riders must be at least 15. Cadets aged 15 and 16 ride the shortest route, juniors aged 17 and 18 may not enter the longest one, and the Granfondo is for riders who turn 19 by the end of 2027. Riders without a Portuguese federation licence, including all foreign riders, register with the event's day insurance.

The organiser reports a record turnout in 2026 and describes the course as a ride through some of the finest landscapes of Alto Minho. Registration closes on 12 March 2027 at 18:00 or earlier if the event fills, and spectators can follow the start and finish on the seafront at Praia Norte.

On Livebib you can follow a cyclist who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
