Racing through Yanbaru in northern Okinawa

Tour de Okinawa is one of Japan's largest cycle sport festivals, held in the Yanbaru area of northern Okinawa Island, where international races, citizen road races and cycling rides share one weekend.

The 38th edition takes place on 7 and 8 November 2026, and the citizen road races are all on Sunday 8 November. Alongside an international road race with a 200 km men's race and a 100 km women's race, the event offers citizen races for amateur racers and non competitive cycling routes, and the 12 municipalities of Yanbaru host it together.

The citizen road race over 200 km is the top category for amateur racers in Japan. It starts and finishes at the Nago City Indoor Sports Arena, climbs Terukubi-yama twice for the mountain prize and passes the turn to Cape Hedo on the north coast. The 140 km starts at the roadside station in Kunigami, the 100 km starts at the Oku community store in the far north, and the 50 km runs from Nago past Motobu and Nakijin and back. Every race finishes at the arena in Nago.

The 100 km has an open category and a masters category for men aged 40 and over. The 50 km has classes for riders up to 49, riders in their fifties and riders over 60, and there are also a ladies race and a junior high school race over 50 km. The challenge races of 200 and 50 km are for riders who aim to finish, with no podium awards. Entries for 2026 closed on 19 September 2026.

Roads along the course are closed on race day, and checkpoints with time cut-offs are set along each route. The organiser publishes the expected passing times at every point on the course, which helps supporters plan where to watch.
