From central Tenjin to the Itoshima coast

The Fukuoka Marathon is a point to point city marathon that leaves central Fukuoka and finishes by the sea in Itoshima.

The Fukuoka Marathon 2026 is on Sunday 8 November 2026 and goes ahead in rain. It is organised by Fukuoka City, Itoshima City and the Fukuoka Athletics Association. The wheelchair race starts at 8:10, and the marathon and fun run follow at 8:20 from Tenjin, near the Watanabe-dori Tenjin crossing in Chuo Ward.

The marathon is 42.195 km on a course certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, with a 7 hour limit and 13,000 places. It finishes near the Itoshima Kouryu Plaza Shimakan in Itoshima City. The organiser describes a route that turns from city streets to sea and hills: past Momochi Central Park early on, by the sea fishing park near 29 km, and over a 25 m climb in the second half before the Genkai coastline opens up at Futamigaura, around 35 km.

Two shorter events start in Tenjin too. The fun run and the wheelchair race are both 5.2 km and finish near the Fukuoka City Museum, so newcomers and people who use a racing chair have a way into the day without the full distance.

Spectators should plan ahead. The finish venues, including the hospitality area, are for participants only this year, so supporters cannot enter them. Race day is a no car day, there is no parking near the finish, and free shuttle buses run between the nearest stations and the venues.
