Five kilometres, an hour and a half

Spartan lists the average time for its Sesimbra Sprint at 1 hour 32 minutes. For five kilometres. That number says more about an obstacle race than any course map.

Spartan Sesimbra is run over the weekend of 7–8 November 2026 from Praia da Califórnia in Sesimbra, the fishing town on the Atlantic about an hour south of Lisbon. There are three adult distances. The Beast covers 21 km with 30 obstacles and runs on Saturday. The Super covers 10 km with 25 obstacles on Sunday. The Sprint, 5 km with 20 obstacles, runs on both days, so there is a Saturday Sprint and a Sunday Sprint. A kids race of 1–3 km runs on the Saturday.

The weekend is built for the Trifecta: Spartan’s own page puts it plainly as completing a Sprint, a Super and a Beast in one weekend, and in Sesimbra that means the Beast and a Sprint on Saturday and the Super on Sunday, or the Beast on Saturday and both shorter races on Sunday. Spartan has not published start times or the course line on its event page, so this page does not guess at them; the wave times come with the race-day information.

Distance is a poor clock in an obstacle race, which is exactly why a live map helps the people waiting at the beach. The runner shares a link to their own Livebib broadcast, and family open it in a browser, with no account and no app. They see the runner’s position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that adjusts as the pace changes at every obstacle. Anything estimated is marked as estimated, and if the phone loses signal the position is carried forward along the course instead of freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
