Funchal Marathon, live.

A winter marathon on the Madeira seafront

The Funchal Marathon is a January road race in Madeira, run along the south coast of the island and through the centre of Funchal.

The 2027 race day is Sunday 31 January, and the awards are given the same day. It is organised by the Madeira Athletics Association, and the course is measured to exactly 42,195 m with a World Athletics certificate. The marathon is open to everyone, with Elite and Masters categories.

The marathon starts at 7:00 on Rua do Gorgulho and has a 6 hour limit. It follows Estrada Monumental towards Funchal and Avenida do Infante, turns in front of the Madeira Congress Center and heads back towards Câmara de Lobos as far as the Assicom roundabout, with several out and back turns. The last part runs through the centre on Avenida de Arriaga, Praça da Autonomia and Avenida do Mar e das Comunidades Madeirenses, past the Almirante Reis garden and Ponte do Mercado.

The mini marathon of about 8.3 km starts at 8:30 from Avenida Doutor Pita, with a limit of 1 hour 30 minutes and open from the under 20 category up. The half marathon starts at 9:00. Entry fees run from 70 to 90 EUR for the marathon, 34 to 44 EUR for the half and 17.50 to 20 EUR for the mini marathon.

The out and back sections mean spectators on the seafront see the field more than once, and the city centre is the easiest place to watch the finish. The organiser notes that times can change in case of force majeure.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Funchal Marathon.
