Valle d'Aosta

Three hundred and thirty kilometres around the Aosta Valley, over pass after pass above 2,500 metres — followed live, from the first climb to the last col.

The loop of the Aosta Valley is one of the longest mountain courses anyone runs in a single push: 330 kilometres and 24,000 metres of climbing, from Courmayeur out along the valley's high routes and back again. There are no mandatory stages. A runner decides alone when to sleep, when to eat and when to move, and the clock never stops — which is why finishing takes most of a week rather than a day.

The last pass is the Col Malatrà at 2,925 metres, reached after more than 300 kilometres. Beyond it the ground falls away into the Val Ferret and the line runs down to Courmayeur under the Mont Blanc massif. Runners have crossed it in daylight and in the dark, in snow and in sun, and every one of them arrives at it with days of climbing already behind them.

On Livebib the whole loop becomes a live page: the route on the map, the runner's position as a green beacon, the metres already climbed and the life bases ahead — with a real-time estimate of when they'll reach each one. Family and friends open one link and follow every pass, through however many nights it takes.
