Swimrun Tâmega brings an ÖTILLÖ Merit Race to the Tâmega valley in northern Portugal over the weekend of 3 and 4 April 2027, based at Alpendurada e Matos.

Swimrun Tâmega describes itself with a simple line: where the water meets the trail. The race alternates swimming in the river Tâmega with running on the valley's trails, without pauses, and everything you start with is carried to the finish. Its longest course is an ÖTILLÖ Merit Race, part of the circle of races that ÖTILLÖ lists alongside its own World Series.

The Merit Race covers 42.4 km, with 5.25 km of swimming and 37.15 km of running over 10 swims and 11 runs, and about 1220 m of climbing, with a time limit of 8 hours. It is open to solo racers and teams. The Standard course is 33.4 km for individuals and 32.4 km for teams, with 4 km of swimming, the same 1220 m of climbing and a 6 hour limit. The Sprint is 19 km with 2.75 km in the water and 635 m of climbing, and a 4 hour limit.

On every course except the Discovery the longest swim is 1.2 km and the longest run 8 km, so the day is a steady rhythm of river and hill rather than one long swim. Teams must stay close together the whole way. The Discovery is a short and accessible course of about 4 km for people trying swimrun for the first time.

The race is certified and has support along the course. The organiser says it was designed to test how well you adapt, with no pauses, no change of equipment and no comfort zones, while people trying swimrun for the first time are promised a controlled and welcoming setting.
