Steep hills and dry heat above Cañete

The second round of the 2026/2027 Perú Trail Series, on Sunday 17 January 2027 in Calango, in the province of Cañete, an hour and 20 minutes from Lima. Four races and a 2 km kids’ run, and the organiser says the name says it all.

The 33K, 24K, 14K and 8K all race on Sunday 17 January, together with a 2 km run for children aged 5 to 13. The organiser has not published start times for this round yet, and gives climbing only for the 33K: up to 1,806 m. It publishes each distance as a range and says lengths vary with each venue’s trails. Entry is open on the organiser’s site, and buses from Lima can be booked for every round, opening a month before each race.

Calango is a town in the low Andes of Lima, in the province of Cañete, known for steep hills and a heat that does not forgive. The terrain is arid hills, extreme slopes and dry earth up to 900 m, with a descent that asks for everything a runner has left. The organiser promises a well marked route, well stocked aid points, a type 2 ambulance, rescue staff at the critical points and an emergency number on every bib, and says it waits for the last runner. Every runner carries their own container, because the aid points hand out no cups or bottles.

Family and friends open it in a browser, no app or account needed, and see the position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. When the signal drops, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated instead of freezing.
