Swimrun above 5,000 feet

The ÖTILLÖ swimrun in the foothills west of Fort Collins, where the swims are in Horsetooth Reservoir, the runs are in Lory State Park, and the whole course lies above 5,000 feet.

ÖTILLÖ Colorado is raced on Sunday 4 October 2026 from the Soldier Canyon Event Facility in Bellvue, west of Fort Collins. The organiser calls it the only high-altitude race in the US series: over 5,000 feet, with open-water swims in the coves of Horsetooth Reservoir and rugged single-track in Lory State Park, the two close enough that the changes between water and trail are short.

There are three distances, all starting at 07:00. The World Series is 36,548 m: 8,045 m of swimming in seven swims and 28,388 m of running in eight runs, with 605 m of climbing. The Sprint is 17,703 m, with 4,699 m of swimming in five swims and 13,357 m of running in six runs and 289 m of climbing. The Experience is 10,621 m, with 3,186 m of swimming in three swims and 7,402 m of running in four runs. There are time checks at 13:00 at Time Checks 3 and 5, before the last long run; athletes later than that are sent to the finish, which closes at 15:00. A sauna and cold plunge wait at the finish line.

The reservoir and the state park are big, and spectators pay to drive into Lory after 07:00. On Livebib the athlete shares a link to their own broadcast; family open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see the position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates leg by leg — including whether a 13:00 time check looks close. During a swim, when a phone in a pouch can lose its fix, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated rather than frozen.
