ÖTILLÖ Colorado Experience

The organiser gives 10,621 m in all: 3,186 m of swimming over three swims in Horsetooth Reservoir and 7,402 m of running over four runs in Lory State Park, with 108 m of climbing. At close to 30 percent, it has the largest share of swimming of the three distances. The organiser notes that the interactive map on its page was not yet the Experience course, so details could change.

The Experience starts with everyone else at 07:00 and shares the cutoffs: 13:00 at Time Checks 3 and 5 and 15:00 at the finish. A shakeout swim is offered beforehand in the Horsetooth Reservoir swimming area, and a sauna and cold plunge wait at the finish line. Athletes bring a wetsuit, whistle, compression bandage and tether. It is the way into swimrun, at altitude: seven legs, three of them in the water.

A first swimrun is one the family wants to see. On Livebib the athlete shares a link to their own broadcast; it opens in a browser without an account and shows the position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the legs go by. When the phone loses its fix during a swim, the position is carried forward and marked as estimated, never shown as measured.
