Bormio, the Mortirolo and the Passo dello Stelvio

La Stelvio Santini is a gran fondo weekend in Bormio, in Alta Valtellina, built around two of the great climbs of Italian cycling.

La Stelvio Santini celebrates 15 years in 2027. The road event is on Sunday 6 June and the gravel event the day before, on Saturday 5 June, with every route starting in Bormio. The gravel routes also finish there.

The road routes are built around the Mortirolo and the Passo dello Stelvio. The long route is 130 km with about 4,270 m of climbing, the medium route 108 km with about 3,050 m and the short route 64 km with about 2,280 m. In the organiser's words, every rider can pick the route that suits their legs, from the most accessible to the hardest.

The gravel event has two routes. The short one is 44 km with about 1,400 m of climbing, and the long one is 70 km with about 2,000 m and includes the climb to the Laghi di Cancano via Boscopiano. Gravel is new to the event, and the organiser describes it as a way to explore dirt roads and farm and forest tracks in a natural setting that is still intact.

The Mortirolo is climbed from the village of Sernio, about 11 km with 1,200 m of climbing at an average of just over 10 percent and peaks of 16 percent. The Stelvio side starts in Bormio and climbs 21 km up the Valle del Braulio at an average of 7.2 percent, through 40 hairpins, to the finish on the Passo dello Stelvio at 2,758 m.

On Livebib you can follow a rider who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from La Stelvio Santini.
