Maratona di Reggio Emilia Città del Tricolore, live.

A December marathon out to Montecavolo and back

The Maratona di Reggio Emilia Città del Tricolore runs on Sunday 13 December 2026, with a marathon and the Mezza Maratona del Tricolore both finishing on Corso Garibaldi.

The idea came in November 1995 from Paolo Bagni of the local UISP athletics league, and the roll of winners starts in 1996. The race is organised by Tricolore Sport Marathon A.S.D. with the municipalities of Reggio Emilia and Quattro Castella, carries the Trofeo Parmigiano Reggiano name and holds FIDAL silver status. The course record is 2h12'26, run by John Hakizimana of Rwanda in 2022.

The marathon starts at 09:00 on Corso Garibaldi. It makes a loop of the old town, past Piazza della Vittoria and Piazza del Monte, then heads out along the Crostolo to Montecavolo in Quattro Castella and back to Corso Garibaldi. The time limit is 6 hours, with a gate at halfway after 3 hours, and refreshments at the start, the finish and every 5 km. Entries are capped at 2,000.

The Mezza Maratona del Tricolore starts at 10:30 in Montecavolo and follows the return half of the marathon into Reggio Emilia, with a 4 hour limit, four refreshment points and a cap of 1,200. Shuttle buses leave the sports hall on Via Guasco for the start between 07:50 and 08:45. Bibs are collected at the Palazzetto dello Sport on Saturday 12 December.

The race suits people closing their season with a last marathon of the year, and the half offers a point to point run from Montecavolo into town. Spectators can catch both races on Corso Garibaldi and in the old town squares.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, so the dot on the map is only as good as that phone and its signal. Official results and split times come from the organiser.
