E101 - Ultra Trail
A hundred and one kilometres around the Grindelwald basin: up to Grosse Scheidegg while it is still night, along the balcony trails to First and the Bachalpsee, then the grinding climb to the Faulhorn at 2,681 metres, the traverse to Schynige Platte and the long descent and re-ascent that bring the field back under the north face. Twenty-five hours is the limit, so the fastest finish in daylight and the rest come home in a second darkness.
The E101 is the race the event is known for and the one the UTMB index ranks it on. On Livebib, family and crew follow it without guessing: the runner’s live position on the real course line, splits at each aid station, the climb profile ahead of them, and an arrival estimate for the finish in Grindelwald that changes as the Faulhorn does its work.
