A lap of Port Phillip Bay by bike
United Energy Around the Bay is Bicycle Network's big one-day ride around Port Phillip Bay, with options from a family lap of Albert Park to the full 220 km circuit.
The 2027 ride is on Sunday 24 October, based at Albert Park in Melbourne. Bicycle Network calls it Australia's biggest one-day riding festival, and it is a supported ride on road with closed roads, rest stops, food and drink, marshals and mechanical and medical help along the way.
The Classic is the route that gives the event its name. It traces the outline of the bay for 220 km through the Bellarine Peninsula and Queenscliff, crosses on the ferry to Sorrento and comes home along the Mornington Peninsula and Beach Road to Albert Park. The 135 km starts at Cunningham Pier on the Geelong waterfront, takes the same ferry and finishes at Albert Park. The 100 km crosses the West Gate Bridge to Williamstown and back, then rolls along Beach Road to Mordialloc and back. The 50 km is the West Gate Bridge and Williamstown out and back.
There is also a family ride on a closed 6 km lap of Albert Park. Riders on the 200 km routes must be 15 or older, and under 18s ride with a registered adult. Almost any bike is welcome, from penny farthings to the latest aero bike.
Friends and family can wait at the event village festival in Albert Park, where every route finishes, with live entertainment and food trucks on the day.
On Livebib you can follow a cyclist who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from Bicycle Network.
