Everything on laps around Black Mountain Peninsula

One Sunday morning in Canberra, three triathlons, and almost every metre of them raced on laps that come back past the same peninsula.

Challenge Canberra is raced on Sunday 22 November 2026. The organiser’s schedule opens transition at 4:30 am, the 100 Distance men start at 5:50 am, ten minutes after sunrise, and the Sprint waves follow from 5:57 am. The Olympic men go at 7:00 am and the women at 7:05 am. The 100 Distance is a 2 km swim, 80 km bike and 18 km run; the Olympic is 1.5 km, 40 km and 10 km; the Sprint is 750 m, 20 km and 5 km. Aquabike versions of the 100 and the Olympic drop the run.

The shape is what makes it easy to watch. All three swims are in the sheltered water off Black Mountain Peninsula, and the organiser notes that the 100 and Olympic swims can be watched in full from the shore. The bike is a 20 km lap along Lady Denman Drive and Tuggeranong Parkway with a gradual climb up Hindmarsh and a fast descent home: four laps on the 100, two on the Olympic, one on the Sprint. The runs stay on the peninsula footpaths and head out toward Scrivener Dam and back, three 6 km laps on the 100.

Laps are confusing from the side of the road: you see your athlete pass, but not whether it was lap two or lap three. A Livebib broadcast answers that. The athlete shares a link, family and friends open it in a browser with no account or app, and they see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates through the morning. Where no position comes in, it is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never shown as measured. The athlete decides who gets the link.
