Five days down the Murray River

The Massive Murray Paddle is a five day, 415 km paddling race down the Murray River from Yarrawonga to Koondrook, open to canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, outriggers and more.

The 57th running takes place from Monday 16 to Friday 20 November 2026. Each day is a stage down the river, passing Tocumwal, Picnic Point, Moama, Torrumbarry and Gunbower before the finish at Koondrook Wharf. The final day alone is 95 km, from the boat ramp at Gunbower to Koondrook, and all craft must be off the water by 5.30pm.

You can paddle the full 415 km or choose a shorter goal of 50, 100 or 200 km, for one day, two days or the whole week. Relays of any size are welcome, as are school teams. Classes range from recreational kayaks to racing K1, K2 and K4 boats, single and double canoes, stand-up paddleboards, dragon boats and surf boats.

Starts go in waves. Slower craft such as single canoes and recreational kayaks leave first, with faster boats following, and paddlers are asked to arrive an hour before their start. The organiser publishes daily maps and a paddlers and crew brochure with checkpoints for each stage.

The event also raises money for local charities and community programmes, and the organisers count more than one million dollars contributed since 2016. For family and supporters, the river towns along the route and the finish at Koondrook make good places to meet paddlers at the end of each day.
