Ravine laps in Kaxholmen since 1990

A mountain-bike lap race on the forest trails at IK Vista, north of Jönköping, which the organiser describes as Sweden’s oldest MTB race.

Vista Mountain is held on Saturday 3 October 2026 in Kaxholmen nature reserve, with the arena at IK Vista. Jönköpings Cykelklubb organises it as a round of Västgötacupen SPORTSON MTB Open under the Swedish Cycling Federation, and this is the 37th edition since the first in 1990. Classes run from a 1 km beginners’ lap for small children to six laps for the elite men, in eight start groups between 09:00 and 15:15.

There are three courses. The main classes race a 3.9 km lap, the sport and younger classes a 3.5 km lap, and beginners a 1 km lap. The long and short courses both begin with a start loop on the first lap, and the long lap adds an extra descent followed by a climb. The trails run through ravine-rich deciduous forest and, according to the organiser, have no rocky sections. A combined technical and feed zone is passed once a lap, and the spectator point at Tulleboring sees the riders several times per race.

Lap racing is easy to watch for a while and hard to follow for long: which lap is she on, and how far behind is the group? On Livebib the rider shares a link to their own broadcast, and family and friends open it in a browser, no app or account needed, to see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Where the phone loses signal down in the ravines, the position is carried forward along the lap and marked as estimated rather than freezing. The rider decides who gets the link.
