Along the Brenta, over the lagoon and into Venice

The Venicemarathon is a point to point road marathon that starts on the mainland at Villa Pisani and ends on the waterfront in Venice, with two shorter races into the same finish.

The 41st Wizz Air Venicemarathon is on 24 October 2027. The organiser reports that the 40th edition had more than 40,000 people running across its races, the fastest and best attended edition so far. The 2027 race pages will follow the pattern below, which describes the current courses.

The marathon starts at Villa Pisani in Stra and runs along the Riviera del Brenta past historic villas, then through Marghera and Mestre past the M9 museum. It winds for about 2 km inside San Giuliano Park, crosses the Ponte della Libertà, a flat straight bridge of almost 4 km, and enters Venice through the port area. From the Giudecca Canal the route crosses the Grand Canal on a temporary pontoon bridge 170 m long, passes Piazza San Marco and finishes on the Riva Sette Martiri. The last 3 km include 14 little bridges over the canals, with ramps over the steps.

The 21K covers 21.097 km from Piazza Ferretto in Mestre, past Piazza Barche and along the Salso canal and San Giuliano Park, then over the same bridge into Venice. The surface in the city is mostly large stone slabs, with cobblestones only in the last 100 m. The 10K starts at the Porta Blu entrance of San Giuliano Park and is about 10.660 km, flat, closed to traffic and marked every kilometre.

The passage through Piazza San Marco, near the Campanile and the Doge's Palace, depends on the tide, and the pontoon over the Grand Canal is built just before the race. The organiser describes the 21K and the 10K as basically flat and fast, and the 21K is measured and certified to AIMS and IAAF standards.
