Downhill from Biosphere 2 since 1969

The Tucson Marathon starts at 7:15 am on Sunday 13 December 2026, with a marathon, 50K, marathon relay and half marathon on net downhill roads into Tucson.

The Tucson Marathon has been run since 1969 along the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains, and is now produced by Aravaipa Running. The course is USATF certified and a Boston Marathon qualifier, and the organiser invites people to join for winter weather and a fast downhill course.

The marathon, the 50K and the marathon relay start at Biosphere 2 near Oracle. The course runs down past Catalina and through Oro Valley to the finish at the Pima Community College Northwest Campus. The marathon has about 292 feet of gain against a net drop of 1,493 feet, and a time limit of 7.5 hours.

The half marathon starts at the Golder Ranch Fire Administration in Catalina, about halfway along the marathon route, and joins The Loop bike path beside the Cañada del Oro before the same finish. It has only about 41 feet of gain. A bus is required to reach the half marathon start, and there is no drop off or spectator access there. The relay has three exchange points, at miles 8.4, 13.9 and 19.5.

Spectators can use the shuttle between Oro Valley Marketplace and the finish line, which runs continuously on race morning. The course is primarily downhill and paved, with distant views of the Santa Catalina Mountains.
