Anglesey's island sportive from Holyhead

Tour de Môn is a cycle sportive on Anglesey that starts in Holyhead on Sunday 22 August 2027, with three routes from 46 to 106 miles.

Always Aim High Events runs Tour de Môn on the coastal roads and country lanes of Ynys Môn, and the organiser says more than 1,000 riders take part each year. Like all of its events, it is bilingual, so signs, registration and commentary come in English and Welsh. A short family ride called the Teulu runs on the same day.

There are three sportive routes. The Bach covers 46 miles, the Canol 77 miles and the Mawr 106 miles, the full island. Every route heads south along the coast from Holyhead and, around 10 miles in, reaches the Flying Mile, a timed section on the runway at RAF Valley, closed for the event so riders can see how fast they can go.

The Bach then turns inland through Bryngwran, Gwalchmai and Bodffordd before coming home through Llanfachraeth and Valley. The Mawr carries on to the south coast and Newborough Forest, passes the Menai Suspension Bridge, follows the east side through Beaumaris, Pentraeth and Brynteg, then the north east coast through Moelfre and Amlwch before crossing the north of the island back towards Holyhead. The organiser warns that Anglesey is not as flat as its reputation, with enough rolling ground to earn every feed station stop.

The Bach suits a first sportive or a social ride, while the Mawr is a long day for experienced riders. The Mawr usually starts between 07:00 and 07:45 and the Bach between 08:30 and 09:00, and confirmed times appear in the final instructions 10 days before. Entry includes marshals, feed stations, support vehicles, chip timing and an event village in Holyhead with music, commentary, food and drink.

On Livebib you can follow a rider live when they choose to share their own position from the phone they carry. That dot comes from the cyclist, not from the organiser's timing, and the official results are published by the organiser after the ride.
