Spartan Hvar, live.

Swim, then climb to the fortress

Spartan’s own description of the Hvar course reads like a tour of the island: swims, floating obstacles, technical running along rocky shores, beaches, and a climb to the fortress above the town.

Spartan Hvar is held from Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October 2026 on the Adriatic island of Hvar in Croatia, and it is a championship weekend: 2026 is the second edition of Spartan’s 100m and Sprint World Championships here. The 100M World Championship opens the weekend on the Friday, together with a kids race. The Beast, 21 km with 30 obstacles, runs on the Saturday. Sunday has the Sprint 5K World Championship with 20 obstacles and the Super, 10 km with 25 obstacles.

What sets Hvar apart is the mix of ground. Spartan describes swims and floating obstacles in the sea, technical running on rocky shoreline, stretches of beach, road crossings, existing trails and newly made paths, about 30 per cent of the route through the town, and a climb to the iconic fortress. Complete a Sprint, a Super and a Beast in the weekend and it counts as a Trifecta. Spartan has not published start times or the course line on its event page, so this page gives none.

For the family on the quay, a Livebib link turns a course they cannot see into a line on a map. The runner shares a link to their own broadcast and it opens in a browser, with no account and no app. It shows position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Where water or rock blocks the signal, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never shown as measured. The runner decides who gets the link.
