Obstacles on volcanic ground, from the harbour

An obstacle weekend on the north coast of Tenerife, starting from the harbour car park in Puerto de la Cruz at the end of November.

Spartan Tenerife is held on 28 and 29 November 2026. The start is at Parking El Muelle, Calle Mequinez, in Puerto de la Cruz on the north coast of the island. The organiser describes a course that blends volcanic mountains, coastal trails and volcanic beaches. Puerto de la Cruz sits on the Atlantic, so the line runs between the sea and the slopes behind the town.

There are three adult distances. The Beast is 21 km with 30 obstacles on Saturday 28 November. The Super is 10 km with 25 obstacles on Sunday 29 November. The Sprint is 5 km with 20 obstacles and runs on both days. With the Beast on Saturday, the Super on Sunday and the Sprint on either, all three races of the Trifecta fit inside the one weekend. There is also a kids’ race of 1 to 3 km. Start times and heats are not on the organiser’s event page; entrants receive them with the race-day information.

In an obstacle race the clock and the kilometres part ways: the organiser gives the five-kilometre Sprint an average duration of 1 h 32 min. A position on the course says more than a time. A runner who carries a phone can share a link to their own Livebib broadcast; family and friends open it in a browser, with no account and no app, and see where on the course line the runner is, how far they have come and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Anything estimated is marked as estimated, and if the signal drops on the slopes the position is carried forward along the course instead of freezing. The runner decides who gets the link.
