Chicago's spring opener, through the Loop from Grant Park

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle kicks off Chicago's spring running season on 20 and 21 March 2027.

Long recognised as an annual rite of spring and a celebration of St. Patrick's Day, the Shamrock Shuffle is part of the Bank of America Chicago Distance Series. The weekend starts with The Mile on Saturday 20 March and ends with the 8K Run and the 2-Mile Walk on Sunday 21 March.

The 8K weaves through Chicago's Loop, starting and finishing in Grant Park. The wheelchair race starts at 8:20 a.m., wave 1 at 8:30 a.m. and wave 2 at 9:00 a.m. Entrants must be able to hold a 15:00 per mile pace and finish within 1 hour and 15 minutes, and must be at least 8 years old. The 2-Mile Walk starts at 9:30 a.m. and follows the lakefront from the same start and finish. The Mile starts and finishes on Ida B. Wells Drive and weaves through Grant Park, with a competitive start at 11:00 a.m. and a recreational start at 11:15 a.m.

The 8K welcomes everyone from professional athletes to beginners, and the walk and The Mile give families an easy way in. Entry includes a race shirt, a finisher medal and a timing device, and adults get a drink ticket for the Post-Race Party.

Packet pick-up is at Buckingham Fountain on 19 and 20 March. Spectators can cheer along the course or form a cheer zone, and the 2027 cheer zone map will be published before the race.
