Shamrock Marathon, live.

A flat coastal marathon that ends by King Neptune

The Yuengling Shamrock Marathon and the Sentara Shamrock Half Marathon start at 7:30 on Sunday 21 March 2027 at 42nd Street and Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach.

The Shamrock Marathon is the oldest continuously running road race in Virginia Beach and is organised by J&A Racing. The 2027 weekend opens with the expo at the Virginia Beach Convention Center on Friday 19 March. The TowneBank Shamrock 8K starts at 7:30 on Saturday 20 March from 30th Street and Pacific Avenue, and the marathon and half marathon follow on Sunday 21 March.

The marathon heads north from the resort area along tree lined Shore Drive beside First Landing State Park, then turns south, crosses Rudee Inlet and runs through quiet neighbourhoods to a turnaround at the southern end before returning north. The half marathon is a loop through the northern part of the same route. Every race finishes on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk just past the statue of King Neptune, with the Atlantic behind it.

The course is flat and fast. The marathon has a time limit of 7 hours 30 minutes and a minimum age of 16, and the 2027 race is a qualifier for the 2028 Boston Marathon. The half has a 4 hour limit and a minimum age of 12, and the 8K a 2 hour limit and a minimum age of 5. Water stops come about every 1.5 miles.

Challenge entries pair the Saturday 8K with the Sunday half or full marathon. Local run clubs take over three blocks of the Oceanfront to cheer participants on, and the post race celebration on the beach at 28th Street runs on both race days.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Shamrock Marathon.
