KAP sani2c, live.

From the foot of the Sani Pass to the Indian Ocean

KAP sani2c is a three day mountain bike stage race across KwaZulu-Natal, from a sheep farm near the Sani Pass in the southern Drakensberg to the coast at Scottburgh.

There are two versions of the event in 2027, each over three days. The KAP sani2c Adventure runs from Wednesday 5 to Friday 7 May and the KAP sani2c OG from Thursday 6 to Saturday 8 May. Both follow the same point to point route of about 265 km, start at Glencairn Farm near Underberg and finish on the grass at Scottburgh Golf Club.

Riders cross part of the KZN Midlands mist belt through dairy and timber farms and indigenous forest, drop down a pass into the Umkomaas Valley and then cross a nature reserve and sugar cane farms to the shore of the Indian Ocean. The route has a high share of singletrack, and the Unitrans Iconic Climb is built to be tough. Everyone sleeps at the same race villages, Mackenzie Club and Jolivet Farm.

The OG is the original event and the one where the racing happens, as a UCI sanctioned race with a prologue the day before. E-bikes are welcome in the OG and start after the regular batches. The Adventure is open to regular bikes only and sells out fast. The organiser says any relatively fit rider can do sani2c, and the real reward is finding the balance between pushing hard and enjoying the singletrack.

The event is known for its community focus, formalised as the sani2c Community Development Trust in 2017, and for its food at the race villages, with banana bread at Mackenzie Club after day one and crunchies at Jolivet after day two. Family and friends meet riders at the finish at Scottburgh Golf Club. A separate nonstop version rides most of the same trails in one go, 256 km within 24 hours.

On Livebib you can follow a cyclist who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the organiser.
