Fifty miles along the Continental Divide

The 2027 San Juan Solstice 50 Mile Run will be held on Saturday 19 June 2027 from the Town Park in Lake City, Colorado.

The San Juan Solstice is a non profit race that benefits the Lake City volunteer EMTs, scholarships for graduating local students and other public service groups in the town. It became a benefit run in 2002. Entry is by lottery, open on UltraSignup from 15 to 31 January, and every entrant must list a completed trail ultra, with the Pikes Peak Marathon the only exception.

The course is one counter clockwise loop from the Town Park, mostly on trails with some jeep roads, between 8,671 and 13,334 feet with more than 12,000 feet of gain. It climbs Alpine Gulch with seven creek crossings, passes Williams Creek, climbs the Wager Gulch road to just below the Carson ghost town and then follows the Colorado Trail and Continental Divide Trail along the Divide before descending to Slumgullion Pass and climbing once more through the Vickers ranch.

The organiser expects a middle of the pack runner to take 12 to 14 hours, and the cutoff is 16 hours. Some segments are long, 10 and 9 miles between aid, so runners carry plenty of water and food.

Crews may meet runners at two aid stations, Williams Creek and Slumgullion, and the organiser encourages crews and families to follow progress from the start and finish in the Town Park after Williams Creek. Breakfast for runners, crews and guests is served in the park.
