A marathon that starts with the Colosseum at your back

Run Rome The Marathon is the spring road marathon of the Italian capital, a partner race of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

The 32nd Run Rome The Marathon is on Sunday 14 March 2027, with the start at about 8:30 local time, and it goes ahead in all weather. It is organised by Infront Italy with Corriere dello Sport and Rome Marathon Runners, carries the FIDAL Gold Label and is a partner race of the Abbott World Marathon Majors.

The 42.195 km course starts on Via dei Fori Imperiali with the Colosseum behind the field. From there it passes Piazza Venezia and the Vittoriano, the Circo Massimo, long stretches of the Lungotevere beside the river, Castel Sant'Angelo and Via della Conciliazione with St Peter's Basilica as a backdrop. The organiser gives the start at 22 m above sea level, the highest point at 31 m and the lowest at 8.1 m, so the course stays close to sea level from start to finish.

The time limit to finish is 7 hours, with intermediate cut-offs set by the organiser. The race is open from the age of 20. There is also the Run4Rome relay for teams of four, with legs of 11, 12.5, 8 and 10.695 km.

On Saturday 13 March the Fun Run covers about 5 km, starting and finishing inside the Circo Massimo, open to all ages and to walkers as well as runners. The organiser invites families, children and even four-legged friends, and no medical certificate for competitive sport is needed. The Expo Village for the race weekend is also at the Circo Massimo.
