Five 20 mile loops in Huntsville State Park

Rocky Raccoon brings a 100 mile and a 100K race to the trails of Huntsville State Park in Texas every February.

Tejas Trails puts on the Rocky Raccoon 100 Endurance Trail Race, a historic trail run held year after year in Huntsville State Park, Texas. The 2027 race is on Saturday 6 February, at 565 Park Road 40 West, with packet pickup at Raven Lodge.

The 100 mile is five full 20 mile loops, with a mass start at 6:00 in the morning. The 100K starts at 7:00 and is one 2 mile short lap followed by three full loops. Each full loop has roughly 1,250 feet of climbing and the same in descent. The organisers describe loops around the lake, over wooden bridges and through towering East Texas pines, on gently undulating trails with a bed of pine needles, and they warn that the tree roots, not rocks, are what grab at your feet. The course closes at 2:00 in the afternoon on Sunday.

Finishing the 100 mile within 30 hours qualifies a participant for the Western States lottery. The race is waitlisted for 2027, and pacers must complete a free registration.

The organisers promise a fun atmosphere for family, friends and waiting crew members, and say the route lays out so that crews have easy access to their runner at multiple locations around the course. There is also a Youth 1 mile at 1:00 in the afternoon, so younger family members can race too.
