Four times across the Willamette

A city marathon that starts and finishes on the Portland waterfront and crosses the Willamette River four times, by the Broadway, Sellwood and Burnside bridges.

The Portland Marathon is run on Sunday 4 October 2026 from Waterfront Park on Naito Parkway, Portland, Oregon. The half marathon starts at 7:00 am, the marathon and 10K at 7:15 am, from Salmon Street between SW 3rd and 4th Avenue, and every race finishes at Taylor Street and Naito Parkway. Start and finish lie at 36 ft; the highest point on the course is 178 ft.

The marathon runs through downtown and Old Town, out to NW 23rd Avenue and back through the Pearl District, across the Broadway Bridge for a loop through the Rose Quarter and back again, past the start area near mile 8 and south along Macadam to the South Waterfront. It crosses the Sellwood Bridge at halfway, loops through Eastmoreland and the Reed College campus, and comes north along the Eastbank Esplanade before the Burnside Bridge, the fourth and last river crossing, with about a mile to go. The time limit is 6 hours 33 minutes at a 15:00-per-mile pace, counted from the last starter, and runners reaching mile 24.3 after 12:00 noon are re-routed around a freight rail line for the final 1.9 miles.

The bridges and the Esplanade are closed to spectators, so the people cheering have a handful of places to stand: SW 4th Avenue at mile 0.5, SW Broadway at 1.4, NW Hoyt at 5, Naito Parkway at mile 8, and the Hawthorne Bridge sidewalk at mile 24.
