Plain 100 Endurance Run, live.

Plain 100 Endurance Run on 18 and 19 September 2027 near Plain, Washington: a 100 mile and a one loop 100K with no markings, no aid and no pacers.

Plain, Washington · September 18, 2027

No markings, no aid stations, no pacers

The Plain Endurance Runs return to the mountains of eastern Washington on 18 and 19 September 2027, with the Plain 100 and the one loop Plain 100K.

Plain is a name and a description. The town of Plain sits in eastern Washington, and the race gives runners nothing but the course: no pacers, no course markings and no aid stations. Volunteers staff checkpoints, but runners rely on maps, directions and their own judgement. The 100K is one loop of the two that make up the 100 mile course.

The first race was in 1997, when six runners started and a snowstorm ended the event early. Tim Stroh and Randy Gerke became the first finishers in 1998. In the first eight years there were only four finishers, and the organiser says about half now finish. The course has never changed, although the start and finish moved to Deep Creek in 2011, and the 100K was added in 2014.

Wildfire is part of the story. The races were cancelled in 2003 and 2015, and the 2026 edition was cancelled when the Little Giant fire burned onto the route. Registered runners were offered a rollover to 2027.

Plain suits experienced ultrarunners who can navigate alone in the mountains for a long day and night. It is run by race directors Tim Stroh and Tim Dehnhoff, who describe it as a small town, non commercial race.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and official results come from the Plain Endurance Runs.
