Mountain lakes at 1800 metres
ÖTILLÖ Swimrun Engadin starts and finishes at the Mulets Sports Centre in Silvaplana on Saturday 3 July 2027, with swims in the cold lakes of the Upper Engadin.
Engadin was the first ÖTILLÖ race outside Sweden, and it launched the international swimrun movement in 2014. The course runs through forests of Swiss stone pine and past mountain villages with Engadin-style houses, with swims in fresh lakes under hanging glaciers. The race is at about 1800 m above sea level, with the valley floor at 1700 m, so the thin air is part of the challenge.
The World Series is 42.73 km with 5.39 km of swimming and 37.33 km of running over 9 swims and 10 runs, and about 1470 m of climbing. Women start at 09:30, men and mixed teams at 09:45. The Sprint is 15.11 km with 2.03 km in the water and 414 m of climbing, starting at 12:00. The Experience is 7.07 km with 1.25 km of swimming and 147 m of climbing, starting at 12:05.
The lakes are cold, between 10 and 14 °C depending on the section, and ÖTILLÖ suggests a neoprene cap if you are not used to cold water. Early July days are often around 20 °C, but snow is possible, so pack for wind, rain and cold. The World Series suits teams who are at home on mountain trails, while the Sprint and Experience offer a shorter way into the same scenery.
Spectators can watch the start and finish at Mulets, and for the World Series also around Lake Champfèr, at Chasté and in Sils. Bikes can be rented in Silvaplana, and the open roads ask for care. Help to teams is not allowed except in a medical emergency, and ÖTILLÖ also streams the race live.
On Livebib you can follow a participant live if they choose to share their own position from the phone they carry during the race. That position comes from the participant, not from the organiser's timing, and the official times and results are published by ÖTILLÖ.
