Zürcher Silvesterlauf, live.

Through the old town of Zurich in December, from the Limmatquai

The Zürcher Silvesterlauf celebrates its 50th edition on Sunday 13 December 2026, with laps through the old town of Zurich in the winter dark.

The start is on the Limmatquai by the Sardonabrunnen, and the race village is at the Stadthausanlage by the Bürkliplatz. The Volkslauf covers 8.5 km in two big laps with 75 metres of climbing. Its fields start between about 14:30 and 17:50, and the organiser marks these times as subject to change.

The Run for Fun over 6.8 km and 70 metres of climbing starts at 18:40. Costumes are welcome, and the organiser is planning a record attempt with 4,000 people wearing pig beanies. There is also an elite elimination race.

The 49th edition drew 25,000 registrations, and the race received the sports prize of the canton of Zurich in 2026. The short distances and the festive mood suit families, colleagues and first time racers as much as club runners looking for a last hard effort of the year.

For 2026 the course has an extra loop around the Zähringerplatz, so Volkslauf participants pass the Migros Fanmeile three times and the Run for Fun field twice, which the organiser calls a hotspot for spectators. After the finish, the race village at the Stadthausanlage is the place to meet.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Zürcher Silvesterlauf.
