The biggest Olympic distance race in the world

The Noosa Triathlon is an Olympic distance triathlon at Noosa Heads in Queensland, Australia, raced on Sunday 31 October 2027 at the end of a five day festival.

The first Noosa Triathlon was staged in October 1983 by Dave Power and Joe Gilbert with the Noosa Heads Lions Club, after they found it hard to fit a marathon onto the sealed roads of the time. It now claims to be the largest Olympic distance triathlon in the world, and it celebrated 40 years in 2023. The festival from 27 to 31 October has 11 events and more than 13,000 competitors.

The race starts at 6:15am from Noosa Main Beach. The 1,500 m swim is an oblong course in Laguna Bay, swum anti-clockwise with the first turn buoy at 610 m, and local sea turtles are known to visit. The 40 km bike is an out and back into the green Noosa hinterland, with the 2 km Garmin Hill climb about 10 km into the ride.

The 10 km run is fast and flat along Noosa Parade, with five aid stations and crowds all the way to the famous blue carpet finish. Transition sits on the grass of Noosa Lions Park. Individuals must be at least 15 at the end of 2027, and relay teams can split the three legs.

Race pack collection is at the athlete village in Noosa Woods on Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October. For spectators, Main Beach and Noosa Parade are the places to be, with tens of thousands of people lining the course over the festival.
