High alpine ridges between Cameron Pass and North Park

The Never Summer 100K and 60K run from Gould, Colorado, between 30 July and 1 August 2027, almost entirely inside State Forest State Park.

Never Summer is a mountain race by Gnar Runners in State Forest State Park, between the Never Summer Mountains on the northern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park and the Medicine Bow Mountains north of Cameron Pass. Both races start from Gould Community Center, and the 2027 weekend runs from 30 July to 1 August.

The 60K starts on Friday 30 July at 5:30 and covers 39.2 miles with 8,800 feet of climbing and a 15 hour limit. The 100K starts on Saturday 31 July at 5:30 and covers 65.7 miles with 14,500 feet of climbing and a 24 hour limit. Participants who run both take on the Dirty Double.

The course runs between 8,450 and 11,852 feet, with long stretches of high alpine ridge, two alpine peaks and four alpine lakes. Expect logging roads, rough trail, boulder fields, meadows, stream crossings and mud, and keep an eye out for moose and elk. A 100K finish under 24 hours qualifies for the Western States lottery.

Registration for 2027 opens on 15 December 2026, with caps of 325 for the 100K and 300 for the 60K. The race suits participants who are ready for long days at altitude and fast changing mountain weather. Results are processed in real time during the race, with splits from every aid station.
