112 hours, five sleep stations

A course of more than 240 miles that starts and finishes in Moab, Utah, where the time limit is counted in days and the aid stations include places to sleep.

The Moab 240 starts and finishes in Moab, Utah. The organiser gives the course as 241.8 miles with 31,696 ft of climbing and 31,892 ft of descent, through desert, canyons, slickrock and two mountain ranges, in country framed by Canyonlands and Arches National Park. The cutoff is 112 hours. Along the way there are 15 full aid stations, five of them sleep stations, plus one staffed water-only stop. The 2026 race, set for 9-13 October, was cancelled because of dangerous weather on the course. The next edition is 8-12 October 2027, with a lottery open from 5 to 24 January 2027 and the draw on 26 January.

What sets a race like this apart is that the clock never stops. A runner moves through several nights, sleeps when and where they choose among the five sleep stations, and arrives at each aid station on a schedule nobody can predict from the start. The distance between stations, the climbing in the mountains and the weather all bend the pace, in 2026 the weather stopped the race altogether, and a crew that guesses wrong waits for hours.
