Rocky trails in the Massanutten Mountains

The Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile and 100 km Run start at 5:00 on Saturday 15 May 2027 from Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp in Virginia.

The Virginia Happy Trails Running Club organises the Massanutten Mountain Trails 100 Mile and 100 km Run, known as MMT. The race uses the trails of the Massanutten Mountains in the George Washington National Forest, above the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Both races start at 5:00 on Saturday 15 May 2027 at Caroline Furnace Lutheran Camp, which sits between the East and West ridges of the range and is also the finish. The 100 mile course climbs about 18,500 feet and has a 36 hour limit, and the 100 km course climbs about 11,250 feet.

The organisers describe rocky, demanding trails with roughly 10 climbs of 750 vertical feet or more. None is especially long, but many are steep, a rocky ridgeline waits at the top, and the course is tougher than it looks on paper. Entry opened on 31 October 2026 and closes on 25 April 2027 at 9 pm.

The 2027 race is the 31st running. Crews are welcome but may meet runners only at the aid stations with crew access, within 200 feet of the station, because parking and access on the course are limited.
