Down two Dolomite valleys on skis
Seventy kilometres of classic technique through the villages of Fassa and Fiemme, and one wall at the end of it.
Marcialonga is one of the three monuments of world ski marathoning, alongside Vasaloppet and Birkebeinerrennet, and the one with the crowds closest to the track: the course runs through the middle of village after village down the Val di Fassa and the Val di Fiemme, past bars and balconies, from Moena to Cavalese. Seventy kilometres in classic technique, mostly downhill in profile and not at all downhill in feel, with the Cascata climb into Cavalese saved for the very end.
The Marcialonga Light takes 45 kilometres of the same course and finishes in Predazzo. Both leave Moena, the elite at eight in the morning and the waves behind them. Livebib puts the whole valley run on one map with the skier on it, distance covered and an arrival estimate for the finish that updates as the kilometres go by — one link for the family standing at the top of the Cascata.
