Seven flat kilometres at 1,600 metres
A short, flat time trial where the organiser’s own warning is the whole story: there will simply be no time to rest.
The Bad Gastein ITT is skied on Saturday 19 December 2026 at Sportgastein, the high end of Austria’s Gastein valley, which the organiser puts at 1,600 metres above sea level. It is an individual start over 7 km in classic technique, with the organiser listing both the men’s and the women’s race at 10:00 CET. In the Ski Classics calendar it is world championship event 3, the race that brings the season back to the same area for a second weekend.
The course is described as a demanding 7 km flat course, on which athletes have to push hard continuously while managing their effort: there is no climb to recover behind and no descent to rest on. The ITT sits inside Ski Classics’ first Tour Competition, four races across two weekends that opened with the 1 km Prologue on 11 December and close the next day with the 36 km Criterium on the same Sportgastein tracks.
The ITT is short enough that a live map is mostly about timing: when to be at the track side for the finish. A skier can share a link to their own Livebib broadcast. Family and friends open it in a browser, no account and no app, and see position on the course line, distance covered and a finish estimate that updates as the race goes. Anything estimated is marked as estimated, and the skier decides who gets the link.
