Through a pre-war railway tunnel and over Maxwell Hill

Malaysia Ultra-Trail by UTMB is a UTMB World Series event in Taiping, Perak, on 4–5 September 2027, with every race starting and finishing on Jalan Kota in the town centre.

The races are built around Taiping’s own hill. Maxwell Hill, which the organiser describes as one of the oldest hill stations in Malaysia, rises behind Taiping Lake Garden, and the courses climb through the Virgin Jungle Reserves around it. MY100 is 97.7 km with 4,802 m of ascent and starts at 03:00 on Saturday, with 32 hours. MY50 is 54.5 km with 1,977 m, starting at 05:00 with 17 hours. MY25 is 25.9 km with 1,012 m, starting at 07:00 with nine hours, and MY13 is 13.9 km with 382 m, starting at 08:00 with four. MYKIDS runs on Friday 3 September at 16:00.

What sets the course apart is how much of Taiping it uses. Runners leave through the Lake Garden, cross the river at Tiger Temple on cemented platforms, pass Burmese Pool and the Sasanakkha Buddhist Sanctuary with a first view over the town to the Straits of Melaka, and in the two longer races run through durian hills and a pre-war railway tunnel. The way home passes Taiping Prison and Taiping New Club. MY100 also has a timed Vertical Kilometre segment on its first climb.

MY100 starts in the dark and spends long stretches under rainforest canopy, where a phone can lose its signal. On Livebib the runner shares a link to their own broadcast, and family open it in a browser, with no account and no app. They see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate for Jalan Kota that updates as the race goes. When the signal drops, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never shown as measured, and the runner decides who gets the link.
