The course is 54.5 kilometres with 1,977 metres of ascent. It leaves through Taiping Lake Garden and Burmese Pool to Speedy Hill, with a view from the Sasanakkha Buddhist Sanctuary over Taiping to the Straits of Melaka, and crosses the river at Tiger Temple (AS1) on cemented platforms. From there it climbs and descends through palm estates, durian plantations and Malay reserve villages around Ayer Kuning to AS2 at the KTM tunnel, and passes through the pre-war railway tunnel on the way to Changkat Ibol (AS3).

Changkat Ibol is the main aid station, with hot meals and drinks, and the only place where spectators may help runners. AS4 overlooks the valley between Ayer Kuning and Tar Mo, and AS5 is a new station at Peak 300. The route home runs via Burmese Pool, the war cemetery, the Lake Garden, Taiping Prison and Taiping New Club. Pacers are not allowed. The organiser expects the first finisher after about four and a half hours; the last has until 22:00.
