Lake Sonoma 100K, 50K and Trail Sisters Half, live.

A spring day of trail racing around Lake Sonoma

Three trail races share one Saturday in April on the trails of Lake Sonoma in California, a lake surrounded by vineyards.

The Lake Sonoma races are owned and operated by Trail Sisters LLC, and the 2027 edition is on Saturday 10 April. Everything happens on one day: the Lake Sonoma 100K, the Lake Sonoma 50K and the Trail Sisters Half Marathon. The lake itself is young by trail standards. It was created by the Warm Springs Dam in 1983, and the Visitor Center that serves as race base sits near the town of Geyserville.

The 100K and the 50K both start and finish at the Lake Sonoma Visitor Center. The Trail Sisters Half Marathon starts at the Lone Rock Parking Lot and finishes at the Visitor Center, with a shuttle back to Lone Rock afterwards. The 100K is a Western States qualifier: finish it in less than 19 hours and it counts for the 2028 Western States lottery.

The organisers describe the day as a springtime ultra trail festival. The 100K takes in sunrise views from the top of Pritchett Peak and trail through Madrone groves along the original 50 mile out and back course. The 50K is offered to those not quite ready for 100K but eager to join the ultra distance club, with a crossing of the Lake Sonoma bridge. The Trail Sisters Half Marathon is a women only race for first timers and experienced runners alike, out and back to the lake and across the same bridge.

All three races end at the festival finish line by the Visitor Center, and finishers receive a custom bottle of wine from Wilson Winery as their award. When full, the lake has more than 2,700 acres of surface and 50 miles of shoreline.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Lake Sonoma race organisation.
