A full distance under Jirisan

IRONMAN Gurye Korea is a full-distance triathlon in Gurye, South Korea, held on Sunday 4 October 2026, and the organiser bills it as the only full-course IRONMAN in Korea.

All three legs sit in the valley below Jirisan. The 3.8 km swim is in Guman reservoir in Jirisan Lake Park, surrounded by the mountain, small villages and Jirisan Cheese Land; the organiser’s course overview gives an average water temperature of 24°C. The 180 km bike runs beside Jirisan and the Seomjin river, past the Jirisan hot-spring village and through dense forest, then along a traffic-controlled industrial road to the riverside road. The 42.2 km run follows the Seosicheon stream through farmland, with the mountain in view to the end and a finish in a stadium.

The organiser describes the bike as mostly flat, and lists both flat and hilly profiles for it. Its historical weather for 2023 to 2025 shows highs of 24 to 26°C, lows of 10 to 19°C and water between 23 and 26°C. Gurye County announced the race week as 2 to 5 October, with the race on the 4th, and said it would close some road sections on race day, in a town the organiser notes has become easier to reach since the high-speed rail arrived.

An IRONMAN is a long day to wait at a finish line, and the 180 km bike keeps athletes away from the finish stadium for hours. On Livebib the athlete shares a link to their own broadcast, and family open it in a browser, with no account and no app. They see the position on the course line, the distance covered and a finish estimate that updates through the bike and the marathon. When the phone loses signal in the forest, the position is carried forward along the course and marked as estimated, never shown as measured.
