One hundred miles of rainforest single-track above Honolulu
The HURT 100 is a 100 mile endurance run held each January in the rainforest of the mountains above Honolulu.
The HURT 100 Mile Endurance Run was born in 2001, put on by the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team. Only eight people finished that first year. The 2027 edition is on 16 and 17 January.
The course is a 20 mile loop on trails under the jurisdiction of the State of Hawai'i Department of Land and Natural Resources. Many of them were once pig trails through the rainforest, converted by Na Ala Hele into single-track paths. Participants cover the 100 miles as laps of that loop, and the organisers have published the course map and a GPX file of a single loop.
Since its small start the race has become known worldwide as one of the hardest 100 mile races. It is limited to 135 runners and many hundreds apply each year, so places are drawn by lottery. For 2027 the application has closed and the lottery was drawn on 8 August 2026. The organisers describe it as a very difficult event designed for the adventurous and well prepared ultrarunner.
The organiser's site has pages for race weekend, including the shake out run, the pre race briefing and runner tracking, and it explains how to sign up as a volunteer.
On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the HURT 100.
