Honolulu Marathon, live.

Around Diamond Head to Kapiolani Park

The JAL Honolulu Marathon starts in the dark at 5:00 on Sunday 13 December 2026 and follows the coast past Diamond Head to Hawaii Kai and back to Waikiki.

Run since 1973, the Honolulu Marathon is the heart of a race weekend in Waikiki each December. The 2026 marathon and the Start to Park 10k are on Sunday 13 December, and the Kalakaua Merrie Mile is on Saturday 12 December at 7:00. Registration for the weekend is open, and the expo runs from Thursday 10 to Saturday 12 December.

The marathon starts on Ala Moana Boulevard by Ala Moana Beach Park. Between miles 6 and 9 it circles Diamond Head, an extinct volcanic crater 760 feet high, then follows Kalanianaole Highway east. At mile 16 the route turns onto Hawaii Kai Drive and loops around an inland waterway before returning along the highway and passing Diamond Head again around miles 24 and 25. The finish is near the Kapiolani Park Bandstand in Waikiki.

The Start to Park 10k starts at 5:00 on Ala Moana Boulevard at Queen Street and follows the first 10 km of the marathon course to Kapiolani Park. The Kalakaua Merrie Mile is a one mile road race in Waikiki the day before, a short and fast way to be part of the weekend.

There is no time limit, no qualifying time and no lottery, and the 5:00 start is lit by a full fireworks display. The course passes Diamond Head twice, climbing around it early on and passing it again on the ocean side in the last miles, and finishers in Kapiolani Park are greeted with their medal, showers and fresh malasadas.

On Livebib you can follow a participant who chooses to share their own live position from the phone they carry. This is not the organiser's timing, and the official results come from the Honolulu Marathon organisers.
