Cincinnati, Newport and Covington on one marathon morning

The Flying Pig Marathon starts at 6:30 on Sunday 2 May 2027 in downtown Cincinnati, with the half marathon and the four person relay setting off at the same time.

The Flying Pig is Cincinnati's spring marathon weekend, organised by Pig Works, and the 2027 edition runs from Friday 30 April to Sunday 2 May. Saturday 1 May belongs to the 10K at 7:00 and the 5K at 9:00, both starting on Mehring Way near the Ohio River. On Sunday 2 May the marathon, the half marathon and the relay all start at 6:30 on Rosa Parks Street.

The 26.2 mile marathon crosses the Ohio River into Newport and Covington in Kentucky and comes back over the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge. It then heads through Eden Park and out east through neighbourhoods such as Mariemont, Fairfax and Columbia Township before returning to the finish on Mehring Way. The course closes behind a steady pace of 16 minutes per mile, and participants who have not reached the Frisch's Mainliner between miles 17 and 18 by 12:15 are bussed ahead to the Eastern Avenue section.

The relay splits the full marathon course into four legs with three exchanges, which makes it a good way for friends or colleagues to share the distance. Marathon entrants must be at least 18 on race day. The 10K welcomes hand cycles, and every finisher of every distance receives a medal.

For supporters, the riverfront start and finish area and the bridges to Kentucky make it possible to see a participant more than once without travelling far. Expect road closures across the city on Sunday morning and plan transport early.
