North Georgia's 104 miles and 33,000 feet of climbing

The Cruel Jewel 100 starts at noon on Friday 14 May 2027 at Camp Morganton in Blue Ridge, Georgia, and the Cruel Jewel 50 follows at 8:00 am on Saturday 15 May from Blairsville.

Cruel Jewel is a pair of mountain trail races in the Chattahoochee National Forest of North Georgia, organised by Dumass Events. The 2027 edition runs from 14 to 16 May. The 100 is laid out for tough and experienced trail runners, and entry requires a qualifying result such as any 100 mile trail finish.

The Cruel Jewel 100 is a 104 mile race from Camp Morganton in Blue Ridge to Blairsville and back, with 20 aid stations and 12 miles of mountain roads among the trails. It carries 33,000 feet of gain and as much descent, and the time limit is 48 hours. The route passes a historic steel bridge over the Toccoa River and the ridge known as the Dragon's Spine, through old growth poplar and hardwood forest.

The Cruel Jewel 50 runs point to point over 58 miles from the Byron Herbert Reece Heritage Farm in Blairsville to Camp Morganton, with 15,000 feet of gain, 10 aid stations and a 24 hour limit. Pacers are not allowed in the 50. In the 100, one pacer may join from the Camp Morganton turnaround or any crew access aid station after it.

Crews may only use the crew access aid stations and must not block roads or trailheads. May weather in these mountains usually ranges from 50°F to 75°F, and participants should be ready for rain. The nearest town to the start and finish is Blue Ridge, and Camp Morganton has a few primitive campsites.
