250 miles across central Arizona

Cocodona 250 links Black Canyon City, Prescott, Jerome, Sedona and Flagstaff in one point to point race that starts at 5:00 on Sunday 2 May 2027.

Organised by Aravaipa Running, Cocodona 250 is a point to point foot race through central and northern Arizona. The 2027 course measures 253.5 miles with an estimated 38,943 feet of gain, and runners have 125 hours, until 10:00 on Friday 7 May, to reach Flagstaff. There are 21 aid stations and 4 water drops, and the surface is 45 percent single track, 46 percent double track and 9 percent pavement.

The race starts at Deep Canyon Ranch in Black Canyon City on the Black Canyon Trail among saguaro cactus, climbs into the Bradshaw Mountains to the Crown King Saloon at mile 37 and descends to Whiskey Row in Prescott. It crosses the Black Hills over Mingus Mountain to Jerome, wades the Verde River near Clarkdale, tours the red rock valley of Sedona and climbs onto the Coconino Plateau. After 11 miles on the Arizona Trail it climbs Mount Elden, the high point at just over 9,000 feet, and finishes at Heritage Square in downtown Flagstaff.

Four shorter races share the route. The Bradshaw Brute 100 starts an hour after the 250 at Deep Canyon Ranch, at 6:00 on 2 May, with a 38 hour limit. The Mingus Traverse 80 starts at Watson Lake Park in Prescott at 6:00 on 3 May. The Sedona Canyons 125 starts at the Gold King Mine Ghost Town in Jerome at 7:00 on 4 May, and the Flagstaff Crest 40 starts at Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff at 7:00 on 6 May.

The organiser calls it a life changing test of endurance, from the Sonoran desert among saguaro to the largest contiguous Ponderosa Pine forest in the world on the Coconino Plateau. Crews first meet runners at Crown King, and on Friday morning everyone is invited to form a spirit tunnel for the last 250 finisher at Heritage Square.
